FRANKFURT, GERMANY - MARCH 13, 2002 - Following the unprecedented success of the VERTEC™ VT4889 Line Array loudspeaker, JBL Professional has introduced the model VT4880 dual 18" subwoofer. The second model introduced in the expanding VERTEC product range, the VT4880 is an outgrowth of JBL's Vertical Technology™ program. Designed as purpose-built arrayable subwoofers, VT4880's can either be flown in conjunction with VT4889 line arrays, ground-stacked, or suspended as stand-alone VLF (Very Low Frequency) line arrays. Applications include concert audio and any high-level sound reinforcement function where extended low frequency performance is desired.

Extending the design and functional elements of the VT4889, the VERTEC sub offers the best ratio of output power to weight in its class. At 58.6 kilograms (129 pounds), one box delivers a maximum peak output of 138 dB (1 meter) and has a 1200W AES system power rating. The VT4880 has two JBL 2258H 18" dual voice coil, Direct Cooled™ cone transducers with Neodymium Differential Drive®. Advanced construction techniques and hybrid materials provide an exceptionally rigid, lightweight enclosure with JBL's roadworthy DuraFlex™ finish and weatherized component transducers.

As part of the product development phase, the VT4880 underwent extensive field testing during the summer concert touring season. Soundmixers working with acts as diverse as Snoop Dogg, Bob Dylan, Brooks & Dunn, Randy Travis, the Beach Boys and Kansas put the new subwoofer through its paces.

"With the VERTEC system, JBL has established a scalable format that works well at all levels, from small ground-stacked arrays up to flying stadium-sized concert rigs," stated David Scheirman, Director, Tour Sound for JBL Professional. "VERTEC has set a new standard for meeting the needs of portable audio system professionals, from sound quality to rigging versatility to transportation issues. The VT4889 gave us an excellent starting point for the design of the VT4880 sub. In fact the front baffle of the VT4880 is exactly the same size as the VT4889. This ensures direct compatability with the VT4889, in the same array if desired. This is practical as well as aesthetically pleasing. The new VT4880 arrayable subwoofer is a direct response to customer input."
